Stars & Guitars for The Raven Boys

I have been sitting on two great starred reviews for The Raven Boys for a little while now, and now that a third one has come in, I can’t stand it any longer and must share. The full reviews will be available when the book comes out (or for subscribers to the journals), but here are some quotes:

“Simultaneously complex and simple, compulsively readable, marvelously wrought. The only flaw is that this is Book 1; it may be months yet before Book 2 comes out.” – Kirkus

“. . . the book is marvelous, for not only is it filled with marvels, it is also a marvel of imagination and, more prosaically, structure. Rich, too, in characterization, this fantasy/mystery rises to the level of serious literature, leaving readers hungering for more.” – Booklist

“It’s a tour de force of characterization, and while there is no lack of event or mystery, it is the way Stiefvater’s people live in the reader’s imagination that makes this such a memorable read.” – Publishers Weekly

Also, Scholastic has nearly finalized my September-October tour schedule for The Raven Boys, so I should be able to share that in a week and some change. For the past few years, I’ve attacked a guitar with Sharpie markers to give away on tour, and this year is no exception. The musical victim just arrived in the mail, and I’ve got a new box of Sharpies just waiting to be loosed.

I’ll be giving it away at the launch party. If I know myself, I’ll probably Sharpie on a couple editions of The Raven Boys, too, to give away to blog folks who can’t come out to the events. We’ll see. Writing deadlines might eat my brains in the interim, but WE SHALL SEE.

Past Sharpie guitars, prepare to meet your new friend . . .

Ekk! Your tour dates! I cannot wait for all The Raven Boys books and the chance to meet you in person. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Virginia dates. I have been counting days till September for months. My doodled-in copy from fountain can’t get here fast enough.

Those are seriously excellent. Of course, it’s not really a surprise to those of us who love your work. :) Definitely the waiting for book 2 will be difficult, it always in with the beginning of a series. I only wish Raven Boys was going to be out in time I could get it signed in Lawrence, KS next month.

Congrats on the FANTASTIC reviews. I was excited for Raven Boys before, but now I’m dying to read it. I love your gorgeous Sharpie guitars. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I might have to set my hopes on a Sharpied book, instead!

I am SO excited for the Raven Boys!! Congrats on the amazing reviews! I tell everyone about you, about how you connect with your readers and make everything personalized; it’s way awesome. I know I’ve sold quite a few people on your books for that reason alone, but, obviously, it’s your writing that keeps them hooked ;] Anywho, SO excited for tour dates, I may have to take a roadtrip to where you are, if it’s not too far! :] Thanks for keeping us updated!

I’ve heard so many great things about The Raven Boys and I’m so excited to get my hands on it! Your writing is absolutely beautiful <3 And speaking of beautiful, how about those awesome guitars? Can't wait for those tour dates as well. You think you'll ever make it as far as Florida? Maybe I can tempt you with some beaches…. :)

Oh, man, I’m all beached out after this week (had a crazy allergic reaction to jellyfish and something in the sand!). But I’m sure I’ll make it to Florida before the next book comes out.

AHHHHHHH SHARPIES! I LOVE SHARPIES! I wonder what would happen if I stole my dad’s acoustic guitar and sharpied it… he’d probably kill me. Oh well. Now I just have to go to the book store and wait for The Raven Boys to come in while watching the trailer over and over and over and over and over and over and over again! XD
p.s. I think a stop in Nashville on your tour is needed, and I think I have some others who agree with me *wink wink*

CONGRATULATIONS MAGGIE! (This is why I love you)….

I can’t wait to read the book and I can’t believe I’ve managed to hold off for so long to be honest since an ARC arrived recently. I hope you come back to the UK this Winter and I do wish you’d bring a sharpie guitar with you!!!

I’m so excited for the Raven Boys!! And I also can’t wait to find out where you’re coming on tour! I also love your guitars, for an art project I sharpied a box inspired by your guitars, and I enjoyed so much I have sharpied a couple other boxs since then.

Sadly, no — there was a brief moment where I looked like I might be able to, but that fell through. I do hope that your doodled/ signed copy will make up for my non-presence, though!

Bummer! I’m in Vancouver, BC and would love to meet you. I read The Scorpio Races recently and totally love it. It was magical the way I was so immersed in the setting and the story, even though it was summer, I was reading it with my socks on! I swear, I could feel the cold, windy, gritty beach. I’ve pre-ordered The Raven Boys through Indigo, and I’m greatly looking forward to it. If you ever tour in BC, please make a really loud announcement. Good luck and I hope your tour is loads of fun.

Congrats on the reviews! Well deserved, I’m sure. Also, they are making me headdesk with feeling, as the release date is SO FAR AWAY (at least, for me). I hope you come somewhere near me! It would be so awesome to see you again, and make up for last time, where my brain broke and I probably made an ass* out of myself.

*(All I need here is a .gif of Jackson Pearce holding up her donkey every time she says “ass” in a live show.)

I had no doubt that the reviews would be amazing:) You’re an absolutely amazing author and waiting for this book to come out will be incredibly hard. Any chance you’ll come to Ontario, Canada for a signing? And those guitars are gorgeous – after seeing those (and I’ve seen one in person at one of your signings) I just can’t bring myself to like normal guitars.

Can’t wait for The Raven Boys!

Your Sharpie guitars make me wish I (a) lived somewhere where I’d be able to come to a launch party at which you’re giving one away, (b) knew how to play the little guitar I hang on my wall, and (c) could draw well enough to sharpie said guitar since it never gets played anyway :D

Oh my goodness. I’m so foolish.
Last year you were signing my book, and you mentioned how you could really do anything with a Sharpie.
I knew that you Sharpie’d guitars…and printers. And yet it temporarily slipped my mind that you may have been referring to that. Apparently it temporarily slipped my mind for a year.
Hmm. It’s all coming back to me.
