About

All of my life decisions have been based around my inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you’re a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which I’ve tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists, musicians, and artists (I’ve made my living as one of these since I was 22).

I now live an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, with my charmingly straight-laced husband, two small kids, two neurotic dogs, one criminally insane cat, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

I’m an avid reader, an award-winning colored pencil artist, and play several musical instruments, including the Celtic harp, the piano, and the bagpipes. I also make great cocktail party conversation.

Email

Ilove hearing from readers! Unfortunately, due to an overwhelming amount of email (over 4,000 emails each month—if I spend 2 minutes on each, that’s 16 business days a month), I cannot reply to them. It doesn’t mean that I don’t want to hear from you, or that you can’t interact with me or with other fans (more on that in a bit). It just means I think you’d rather have another book from me, which is usually what I’m doing when I’m not answering e-mails. So…

First of all, If you have a question, check out the FAQ to see if your question has been answered. I’ve done a lot of interviews online too, so Google might give you what you’re looking for.

Second of all, these are things I just can’t do (no exceptions):

  • read any unpublished writing
  • answer writing-related questions
  • comment on casting choices for Sam and Grace (I really, really swear I have no part in this, okay? Honest. I would not deceive you.)
  • accept interview or visit requests through my e-mail

Third of all. Here’s the part where I direct you toward my blog and say that it’s the best place to find out news about the books as it happens, hear me talk about my writing process, and find out what I’m up to. I recommend the blog, Facebook, Twitter, and fansites for more in depth interaction with me and other readers.

I really appreciate all of my readers and I do read every single e-mail, blog comment, and tweet and will continue doing that for as long as I can.

If you are a blogger, journalist, bookseller, teacher, or librarian, these email addresses may be what you’re looking for:

  • If you are a blogger sending a request for an ARC, e-mail the
    publicity department.
  • If you are a journalist or blogger with an interview request, e-mail
    my publicist.
  • If you are a school or library looking for information on author visits, e-mail
    Scholastic.
  • If you are a bookseller needing information on signings or bookplates, e-mail
    my publicist.

Thank you so much for reading!

And finally, here is the e-mail address to send reader mail, again with the disclaimer that I usually cannot reply.
